Floyd H. Mielke, 90, of Fond du Lac, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012, at Grancare Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Fond du Lac.
He was born on December 31, 1921, in the Township of Fox Lake, a son of Albert H. and Ella Birkholz Mielke. Floyd was schooled a quarter mile east of the farmhouse, in a one room school through the eighth grade. He farmed with his dad until 1944, and then went on the road selling roofing and insulation. In 1945, he went to work for William Hildebrant for a year and then moved into a one room apartment in Fond du Lac, and began working for Rudy Paint Contractor.
On June 21, 1947, he married Bernice E. Zunker.
In 1947, he began his employment with Harold Wagner Building Contractor. In 1954, he got a job as an apprentice carpenter with Immel Construction Company, where he helped to build the Fond du Lac Clinic, McDermott Park Water Reservoir, and the Safety Building on Macy Street.
In 1956, he purchased the land and home on 11th Street where he built a new cabinet shop and over the years expanded, and in 1978, named the business Mielke Cabinet Supply. In 1995, he sold the business to his sons, Eugene and Larry Mielke.
Floyd was a charter and active member of Luther Memorial Church, Fond du Lac.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice; four sons: Wayne (Sandy) Mielke of Eau Claire, Eugene Mielke of Fond du Lac, Larry (Jill) Mielke of Fond du Lac, and Lloyd (Rosemary) Mielke of Crystal, Minnesota; seven grandchildren: Steven (Amy) Mielke, Bethany (Adam) Gamble, Daniel (Alisha) Mielke, Richard Mielke, Joseph Mielke, Jenny Mielke, and Scott Mielke; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bernard (Helen) Mielke; and three sisters: Eleanor (Raymond) Lemke, Viola (Alfred) Dretske, and La Verne (George) Pollesch.
The visitation will be on Monday, May 7, 2012, at Luther Memorial Church, 134 21st Street, Fond du Lac, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday at church with Rev. Neal Radichel officiating. Burial will follow in Rienzi Cemetery,
